A “Notebook” inspired dream vow renewal in Paris
A “Notebook” inspired dream vow renewal in Paris. If you’re like thousands of romance lovers, you’ve probably seen the movie, The Notebook, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. I absolutely love this movie. Yes, it’s sappy and sentimental and corny in a way, but still.
This is an old movie, it came out in 2004. My grandmother, who is no longer with us, first told me about this movie back in 2004. She saw it in the theater and recommended I see it. I can’t recall when I first saw it, but I’ve seen it a million times and each time it gets me. It’s the story of true, deep, and meaningful love, the kind of love that I didn’t think existed. Yes, it’s a movie, but the author based it on his own grandparents story.
You may wonder, what does this have to do with a Paris vow renewal, and why is a Paris vow renewal photographer talking about a Hollywood movie? Because I worked with a couple that reminded me so much of this movie, with a deep love that has taken a circuitous course, to bring them together again and now they’re married. Let me tell you a bit about their story.
Laura-Lynn and Elton live in Ontario, Canada. Their love story began 18 years ago, they were super young at the time. Only they didn’t get together right away. In fact, they were friends, then more, then they had a falling out and didn’t see each other for years. They checked out each other’s Facebook happenings, but didn’t really speak. But the spark was always there. Fast forward to the last year, when they found each other again, and each of them had grown in their own ways. This time, the timing was right and earlier this year they married in a small ceremony at their home.
Now this is where the second part of the movie comes into play. If you recall, the two characters in the movie fell in love, then moved apart and were apart for many years until they got back together and lived happily ever after. But what did Noah do in those intervening years? He restored a house to give him something to do and in hopes that one day Ally would come back to him.
I loved chatting with Elton. Elton shared with me that the home he and Laura-Lynn are living in now was a boyhood dream of his. Built by a man from Sweden, meticulously with incredible detail, Elton admired this home since he was an eight year old boy. The family had to sell the home and Elton purchased it. Now, he and his love Laura-Lynn live there together, surrounded by woods, and enjoying their slice of heaven in Canada. They’re avid hunters and love deer so much that their wedding rings are made from deer antlers. I’d never seen such unique wedding rings!
Despite the fact Laura-Lynn and Elton have been married less than a year, they wanted to do a vow renewal in the magnificent city of Paris, and I can’t even describe how magical it was. Despite it being December, normally a very cloudy and rainy month, the day dawned bright and the light was fantastic. Laura-Lynn looked like a princess, and I was fawning over her gown all day. Not just the color, which I loved, but the incredible detail. She is also very talented, as she did her own hair, and it was just gorgeous. Elton was super handsome in his suit and so friendly, I felt like I’d known him forever. It was such a pleasure to spend the morning with this couple that the more I got to know, the more I loved.
We started our day at the Eiffel Tower, in the Trocadero gardens, as Laura-Lynn and Elton exchanged their sweet words to each other. They opted for a private moment together, in Paris you also have the choice to add on an officiant or celebrant, who can also add great meaning to the ceremony, particularly if you’d like it to have religious aspects, such as scripture. Many couples just choose to go it alone and then have beautiful photographs taken around Paris. After they exchanged their beautiful words, I photographed Laura-Lynn and Elton at various points with stellar Eiffel Tower views.
Then, we hopped in our private car, which is the absolute best (I’ll give you information on hiring a private driver when you book your Paris vow renewal), stayed toasty warm, and headed off the Louvre, our next stop. The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world and has stunning royal architecture. I love photographing couples here. After the Louvre, we got back in the car to be driven to the Luxembourg Gardens. As we got out, it was enchanting to see in front of a very nice restaurant a whole gaggle of giant teddy bears on the terrace chairs. It was New Year’s Eve day, after all, and the bears were celebrating the holiday season. Of course, I had to have Laura-Lynn and Elton sit on these chairs for fun with the bears surrounding them. Just across the street is a gorgeous and famous fountain, with the sunlight streaming in, it was simply divine.
The very last stop of the day was for a delicious champagne toast at a historic and cute restaurant in the Marais district. The terrace is a perfect place to wind down after a fun morning of vow renewal photos.
Elton told me how much he loves Laura-Lynn, and how he had done a lot of personal work and growth and that Laura-Lynn accepts him for the person he is. Laura-Lynn loves Elton for his kindness, openness, and free spirit. They’re living happily in Canada in their gorgeous home Elton dreamed about his whole life, he and the love of his life, together. The way Elton described their lives together, well, like I said, it was just like the happy ending of Noah and Ally finally being together in The Notebook.
I could not have been more excited or happy to meet them and photograph them. I loved every single minute. Congratulations Laura-Lynn and Elton, and my very best wishes to you for a long and happy life together!
