A little magic at the Eiffel Tower
There’s no doubt a trip to Paris is a magical event. All of those landmarks and monuments you grew up hearing about and seeing in the movies, well, it can be a bit overwhelming to finally see them with your own eyes! This is the case with the Eiffel Tower, a landmark celebrating its 130 years and still a huge draw. As a Paris photographer, specializing in couples, I often wonder, what is it that draws people to the Eiffel Tower exactly? It’s a cool shape, really pretty iron work to be sure. But what is it about this monument that most of my clients choose it over all other Paris locations for their Paris photo session? I think it’s the symbolism of it, it’s a beautiful structure to be sure, but it means so much more. It means romance, love, and the minute you see it for yourself, you’ll see that it’s awe inspiring.
One thing clients don’t often realize is that very often the Eiffel Tower has a bit of fog. It stands at 1,063 feet (300 meters). It’s not as tall as the Empire State Building in New York City (that building is 381 meters). Yet, it’s tall enough that when some low clouds move in, you can’t alway see the top. Does this ruin an Eiffel Tower photo session? Not at all! It lends a very unique, dream like and magical quality to a Paris photo shoot and should be considered a very special day!
On this somewhat foggy day I met a couple from Oklahoma who were as nice as can be. Not only were they nice, they were funny and had a great sense of humor! I had a lot of fun with them. Their names are Colin and Chelsea and the first time I saw them I noticed how nicely dressed they were. I always notice how clients are dressed, as I have a keen eye for detail. The first thing I noticed was the amazing color of Chelsea’s dress. It was a wine/burgundy color and was really beautiful and intricate with lace. Then, I noticed Colin’s tie. How on earth did he get the tie to match Chelsea’s dress? When I asked them, Chelsea told me that Colin just so happened to have this tie in his wardrobe! What luck, it looked great!
Most Eiffel Tower photo sessions start at the Trocadero area in Paris. This is a museum complex that just so happens to have one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower anywhere. This area is also known as Palais de Chaillot and you’ll find the Trocadero gardens here on either side as well. I have so many cute and charming spots from which to photograph couples, it’s almost endless, but I first try to find out what my couples are looking for.
For example, I ask how the couple will use their photos and why they want them. Is it for a vacation memory in Paris? To commemorate a special occasion, like an anniversary, honeymoon or engagement? Is it a romantic session they’d like? I’m a romantic couples photographer, which means I photograph the real love and emotion between a couple. But, some couples do not feel so comfortable showing emotion, so it’s important to learn as much as I can about my clients and their wishes.
Love and fun
Chelsea and Colin are a couple that likes to have fun, and they’re good sports too, up for pretty much anything! Not only were they able to execute the perfect “Eiffel Tower lift”, but when I asked them if they wanted to do a “dip” Colin happily dipped Chelsea and I have to say, it was one of the very best dips I’ve ever seen! Simply beautiful.
No Eiffel Tower photo session is complete without a quick trip to the rivers edge, especially in the morning light you can get some amazing close-up views!
