Black and white timeless elegant wedding photography in Paris

Black and white timeless elegant wedding photography in Paris. As a professional photographer in Paris that specializes in engagement, honeymoons, weddings, elopement and vow renewals, I’m fortunate to meet so many beautiful people from all over the world. Not only do I enjoy photographing them, but I enjoy sharing Paris as well. I’ve been living in Paris since 2014 full-time and coming to Paris since I was a teenager.

A common theme in my work is the use of color. Light and color are infused into all of the images I create. It’s my signature style, and I probably use more color in my images than other Paris wedding photographers. Nine times out of ten, I’m attracted to the color in a scene, and that’s what my clients like about my work. However, there are times when a project or a scene calls for the lack of color. Black and white photographs are often associated with old photos. You know, those photos we find in the attic of our great-great grandparents. Back when there was no way to process color film, and we had only black and white to look at. As a young person, I thought black and white photos were so old school and didn’t like them at all. But, times change!

There is no city more meant for black and white than Paris. Black and white looks so classy, elegant and looks great on people and architecture. In the summer,  the summer light is very high in the sky and extremely bright. Often we don’t have a choice of when we photograph couples in Paris who are having their weddings, elopements or vow renewals. The morning time is taken up with wedding preparation and by the time we get outdoors to the ceremony, or to to photographs, the light is already bright and sunny.

Take for example my clients Gavin and Jennifer. This couple, who I thought for sure looked like models, from Los Angeles via England arrived to the Trocadero area of the Eiffel Tower looking like they stepped out of the pages of Vogue, and I’m not exaggerating. Jennifer wore the most beautiful gown, the same gown she’d worn four years ago at her wedding in Italy. It had a shoulder cape that was adorned with elegant lace, and tiny buttons all the way down the back of the dress, which also had a short train. She wore her hair up, in classic Audrey Hepburn style, a raven haired beauty if I’d ever seen one. Her husband Gavin was also effortlessly cool and handsome in his black tuxedo. Instead of Vogue magazine, I’m going to start a magazine called Elegant Couple and feature them on the cover!

Okay, I joke, but they were not only a joy to photograph, but a joy to be around.

Here’s how their special day went.

We began the morning with a vow renewal ceremony in the Trocadero Gardens with a view of the Eiffel Tower, along with an officiant. An officiant is very important for a Paris wedding, elopement or vow renewal, as they add special meaning to the day. Gavin and Jennifer were both very emotional as they read their vows to each other. They shared with me that their wedding four years ago had been just amazing in Italy, with their close family and friends. But they also shared that while it was nothing short of amazing, the symbolism and intimacy they desired between the two of them exchanging vows was a bit lost. They’d also been through a lot of change, and this change brought them closer. The idea of spending a morning in Paris, renewing their vows, would hold special meaning. Of course, the emotional Pisces I am, I shed a few tears during the reading of their vows.

After the vow renewal ceremony, and some celebratory champagne, I photographed them around Trocadero and then we headed to the magnificent Pont Alexandre, then on to the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre. We put the finishing touches on this perfect morning with a stop at the veritable Ritz Hotel, where Gavin and Jennifer were staying. The Ritz Hotel in Paris is known worldwide for its impeccable service and regal design. The hotel is a treasure trove of wedding photography locations, including the sumptuous staircases and in the inner court, a sparkling fountain. I thought it would also be fun to showcase the couple on their balcony as well. How fun was that? It was a real treat!

This day with Gavin and Jennifer was a true joy. I created images for their day in both color and black and white. Which to do you prefer? I think they both look gorgeous, but I have to say, the black and white has really grown on me!
